August 2011 School

My Theme for the Year

Soaring Above the Clouds with MUSIC!

btw... Leslie came up withthe idea for the theme.

The idea grew into this bulletin board with some minor setbacks, but then it all came together. Leslie and Layna helped. Leslie made the letters on her criket (sp.?)

She found pictures in her balloon pictures from Albuquerque's Balloon Fiesta that we have attended for many years with Kirk.

She ordered the pictures from Costco. I found the backdrop paper at Hobbie Lobby, cut out the balloons and Leslie basically stapled the whole bulletin board up on the board. I love it.!!

9 National Music Standards that we try to teach some at least every day.

Those words are just the main word(s) of each Standard.
+ a glimps of the Daily awards sticker chart

Door and Bulletin Board and resonator bell boxes
Circle made with yellow duck tape...
Thanks to Jeremy and Leslie and Luke for helping me put it down.
See the two balloons I bought at the Balloon Fiesta hanging
from the pull down screen

Instrument wall plus file cabinets, piano and class PA cart.
Looking into room from the door... Books, Boomwhacker, Stereo...

The other wall is full of cupboards, shelves, lots of chairs and a sink.
My desk and computer table. My private fridge and microwave.
I'll try add that later.

I am having a fun time with the kids, but I am exhausted today.

I just might hit the bed before 9PM.

Letter from Nathan, yeah for scouting!

Email from Nathan June 8, 2011
Dear Grandma,
In Cub Scouts I build a tool box.
Matt first measured the wood and we drilled
a hole right where he put a dot. Matt cut the wood
when I wasn't there. We put glue on the ends and
we were done gluing we used a nail gun.
Matt is my Scout Teacher. Last we just had a party.
I brought chips and soda and we ate salad, chips,
and pizza hut.
Afterwards we played foot ball. Next week is day camp.
At day camp we throw balloon at people, we shoot bb-guns,
archery and swim.
Cub Scouts is fun, I like to be a Cub Scout.
Love, Nathan Smith
Here is the tool box...WOW!
Nathan the Bear Scout! HANDSOME DUDE..Huh!
Nathan and his Pinewood derby car
I am so glad Nathan loves cub scouts!
Scouting is so important in the lives of my grandsons. We have one Eagle scout now and two other scouters. We should have 11 Eagle scouters in this family.
One scout is at Scout camp as I write this entry.
I am Grateful that Leslie loves scouting and is active
in the leadership role she plays too.
Also I am glad that my other adult children
lead and support their scout sons and nephews!

I would really like to plan all my programs for next year, do some more power points and work on family history and index many more names. Attend the temple a little more often and just have fun with my family and make memories.

MAY .... Mother's Day Flowers and More

Close up of the Roses Kirk gave me this Mother's Day 2011....
1 Dozen Roses in a Vase
Our School Chorus singing songs about "Goin' Campin'"
Notice the kids all wore pretty much modest camping clothes!!
We sang some fun songs!
Playing Basketball with music...
classroom activity of bouncing the basketballs
choreographed to the beats of
half notes, quarter notes and eigth notes.
Lots of fun in this classroom activity.

Kids having fun in a 6th grade class.
The school Student body President is dancing with a special needs boy to "Firework"!
She is a sweetheart!

Monday activity .... Kindergarten children never cease to amaze me. I handed out these boom whackers and as I turned around to get the CD remote, I turned back to find the kids had all stood their boom whackers neatly in front of them while waiting for instructions. By golly, I think they have finally learned how to wait and listen so they can learn..... CUTE KIDS!!!
