FREAKY FRIDAY....... a ride to remember

It was Friday late afternoon and Kirk (my son) and I were coming home from Taylor from a funeral. Up on top of the rim I couldn't believe there was snow and I was taking a few pictures with my phone camera, yes, you guessed it I forgot my "real" camera. Everyone else in this family always takes the pics. Well, anyway as we are on the road heading south from Payson on Highway 87 Kirk could see a Highway patrol car coming extremely fast from behind us. Moving over from the fast lane Kirk was hoping the officer wasn't after him for some reason... we all worry that they are coming after us when we see those flashing lights. But no, no, he zooms right past us and as we keep driving around the curvy road, I can see glimpses of him getting further ahead of us all the time. We were just cruising along when Kirk said he could see another DPS car with lights flashing coming up from the rear. Oh, by this time Kirk is thinking there must be a bad wreck or something up ahead and now he is worried he isn't going to make it to the Easter pageant back in the valley. Not too much further down the road we see the lights of one of the DPS cars stopped on the road. At first we see him frantically waving to us to slow way down and as we continue into the curve of the road we see the other DPS car with his flashing lights and another man ahead of him and then we see the road..................

At first I thought I was in one of those Twilight Zone movies where you see freaky things, then it looked like an earth quake hit the embankment and as we progressed further the whole road looked as if it was a twisted roller coaster. The mountain on the side of the road looked like it had caved in and it was swallowed up under the road, bringing the road up and buckling the pavement. There was a Van or something like that about 50 yards in front of us. The DPS officer actually let us drive forward but kept motioning to us to really slow down and move into the inside lane. Our truck literally crawled and bounced all over the road, it seemed as if all four wheels were driving on different levels ... I guess you might say we were "4 wheeling" Each tire was trying to stay on the road but it almost felt as if we were going to go flying up or we would fall over. My phone camera unfortunated was tucked away on my pocket... boohoo and I didn't get it out in time. I was in too much of a shock. As we looked up the mountain from the road , it looked as if it were alive and it was still collapsing.......... yikes! So as soon as we passed that section of highway and were on smooth level ground we just bucked it out of there.

Oh my, mother nature sometimes has the upper hand and we need to respect it.

After we got home I found out the road to Payson was shut down and is still today...Saturday.

My goodness that is the main route from Mesa, Phoenix to Payson and the rim towns and sites. Think of all the people that commute to work. Yes, there are other roads that will get everyone where we need to go, but it will take a longer time, more miles and more expensive gas.

Geologists and DPS Engineers are assessing the problem, but as I understand that same 224 mile marker area has already had land slides. I guess they need to do some serious evaluations of the situation. I am thankful we are safe and that no one else got hurt. Think of of what could have happened!!!

I guess you can call that my FREAKY FRIDAY!

Life is.....

Life... it is sometimes a very tough thing but, I feel it is the little things in life that makes it all worth it. Just a thought in a month when things have gone crazy and wrong for so many of the sweet people in my life.

"This too shall pass" Oma always said to me and I know we will "grow from these experiences," although they my be unpleasant and sometimes so hard that we feel we cannot make it. This is the time when we need to "Trust in the Lord", obey the commandments and continue with a faith in Christ doing everything in our power to get through the mess we are in and then we will rise.

A talk was given a few Sundays ago about the "refiners fire." Silver gets refined or purified at the hottest point in the refiner's fire. This is when the silver takes on that brilliant shine and we can see our greatest reflection. None of us want to go through that refiner's fire, but if we endure we will come out a much better person. Again we just have that faith that all will be well.

The little things I am grateful for in my life is my family. My children all are precious to me. Each has their own divine calling, talents and personality. That is what makes our family unique. I love all my grandchildren. I love their hugs and sweet things they say and do for me that show their love. They are not angels at all times but each of them brings joy into my life.

I'm thankful I am back at work and I love teaching music to those 900 kids. I love doing the choir at church and bringing to our church meetings a sweet spirit that music can bring. It is said that "music can bring us closer to God and prepare us to feast on his word."

Especially at this Spring time, I am grateful for this beautiful world. When my first graders sing "It's a Wonderful World"and we prepare for the Easter Season, I am forever grateful that I have been given an eternal perspective of the divinity of this earth and the plan of salvation.

I hope we can always keep an eternal perspective as we travel through this life ... A road that has many bumps, hills and valleys, curves and inclines that sometimes are so steep that we think we may just fall off the road, but when we get to the most scary part we realize the road just continues on.

Life is.....

The Beginning

This is the beginning of my blog. Leslie wants me to do this so that I can comment on her blog.
I have been writing journals for a long time. I actually have 7 volumes, but of course that is all private. Now everyone can read this. So here we go on to a new adventure. So if you read this I'll try to be entertaining.
